Crochet ~ The Beginning

Do you remember I told you about the Knit & Stitch group I go to on a fortnightly basis? Well, we try to work on joint projects as well as our own things. Previously we did a knitted patchwork blanket which was donated to the East Cheshire Hospice. Now, we are doing a crochet granny square blanket. I was a little nervous when they suggested it as the only crochet I have done is the edging around my Daughters blanket but that didn't involve any counting so was quite simple.

Here is the start of my first Granny square (which took me nearly two hours to do):

After a lot of undoing and many more hours, I finally finished my first square:

There are a few mistakes but pretty pleased with it for my first attempt.

This is the pattern we were given:

It made no sense to me whatsoever, it was like a foreign language!! So today I have been watching youtube instead. I have been following this youtube video (need to learn how to embed a video!) for my second square and suddenly it makes sense, as I was going round it seemed to click into place. I think I may be hooked on hooking haha!!

This is my second square so far:

Next I need to try using two colours eek! Eventually I would love to be able to make this Granny puff blanket from the Granny Chic book but I'm a way off that yet!

Once all the ladies have made a pile of squares we will sew them together for a blanket and probably donate it to the Hospice again. Hopefully it won't be long until I can show you the finished result!

Thank you for reading xx

    4. Yes, I love Lucy's blog! I follow about 12 blogs, including your's, and I truly appreciate the effort and hard work it must take to post regularly and to maintain a blog. Crafting certainly is a nice way to pass an evening. Or a little time at the weekend. It is a great hobby. X
