Knitted Patchwork Blanket ~ Part One
Remember the knitted patchwork blanket I recently showed you? (see here for a reminder). Well, it was at my house for quite some time whilst I was sewing together all the patches and my 3 year old Son grew quite attached to it, calling it 'my rainbow blanket'. He has a thing for blankets, if he is sitting on the sofa watching the tele he has to have a blanket, luckily we have loads around the house.
It got me thinking that I would like to make him his own 'rainbow blanket' but with the problem of not been able to knit, I roped in my Mum who very kindly knitted me lots of squares - 117 of them to be exact!
A really good mix of colours to turn into 13 rows of 9 squares. I now have the job of sewing them all together using the ends of the wool on the corners.
I have completed the first row today and already it is looking fantastic!
I am really enjoying sewing them together, I haven't done any sewing for a while so its a nice gentle way to get back into it. I can't wait to see it finished and put it on the end of his bed, and it can be a keepsake for him.
Thanks Mum - I just know he is going to love it xxx
Thank you for reading xx
How great of your Mum to knit those for you, but I have to say, I'd rather knit squares than sew them together! Now, when are you going to learn to knit???

I'm the opposite, I would much rather sew them together than knit them. I did think that once I have finished this one, I should have another go at knitting and maybe do one for my daughters bedroom in lots of different pinks. Easier said than done though :) xx
DeleteWell done your mom! It will be a lovely keepsake for him when you have finished sewing the squares together. A pink one for your daughter sounds a great idea too! Happy sewing!

ps my sweetpeas are still shooting up! Don't they grow quickly?! x
I have almost finished the second row already, just need to decide what to do around the edge? My friend does crochet so was thinking about a crochet edge but don't want it to look girly?
DeleteYes, uncontrollably fast! Mine are starting to flop over, I really need to put some canes in. They have 4 sets of leaves so I have taken the flowers off, so keeping fingers crossed x
What a lovely project for you and your Mum to work on together- I'm sure your son is going to be so happy with his very own rainbow blanket- especially one made by his Mum and his Gran :)
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly :) xx
